La Cañada Unified School District officials will soon return to the negotiating table with Glendale Unified to see if any agreement can be reached regarding a possible transfer of the Sagebrush territory into LCUSD boundaries.
Supt. Wendy Sinnette said Tuesday that she and Ellen Multari, outgoing board president, has scheduled a meeting with GUSD Supt. Dick Sheehan and one member of that district’s governing board.
“Both parties want to go back to the table, and we do have a working group established and will be meeting on Jan. 8,” Sinnette said. “That’s just to look at the proposal which they submitted to us and identify whether or not there is any room for future talks in the negotiations.”
In November, Glendale school officials made public a proposal under which LCUSD would pay $23 million over the course of several years to compensate the revenue GUSD would experience from a potential loss of hundreds of students.
LCUSD officials said in response there is no way the district can afford to pay such a high amount, especially in light of the fact that the two districts had earlier been negotiating closer to the $7 million mark.
